Award-Winning Rodeo Tradition

7X PRCA MEDIUM OUTDOOR RODEO OF THE YEAR

The PRCA Medium Outdoor Rodeo of the Year award is one of the highest honors in professional rodeo because it is determined by the people who know the sport best, the contestants. Each year, PRCA athletes evaluate rodeos across the country based on hospitality, organization, stock, facilities, and the overall contestant experience. The Black Hills Roundup has earned this distinction seven times, winning the award in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2024, and 2025. That level of sustained excellence reflects the dedication of the committee, volunteers, sponsors, stock contractors, and the Belle Fourche community that work year-round to make the rodeo a premier stop on the PRCA schedule.

For the Black Hills Roundup, the award represents far more than a trophy. It is recognition that a tradition dating back to 1919 continues to set the standard for professional rodeo. Contestants have repeatedly cited the Roundup's hospitality, organization, and community support as reasons it stands among the nation's best rodeos. From championship-caliber livestock and top specialty acts to packed grandstands and a passionate volunteer base, every aspect of the event is focused on delivering an exceptional experience for competitors and fans alike. Seven PRCA Medium Outdoor Rodeo of the Year titles serve as proof that the Black Hills Roundup remains one of the most respected and celebrated rodeos in the country.

2018 Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame Induction

For more than a century, the Black Hills Roundup has carried the spirit of rodeo in Belle Fourche, South Dakota. Built by volunteers, supported by the community, and respected by contestants across the country, the Roundup has earned national recognition as one of the premier rodeos in professional rodeo.

WPRA Badlands Circuit Best Footing

The Women’s Professional Rodeo Association has recognized the Black Hills Roundup two times for Best Footing in the Badlands Circuit, an award that speaks to the rodeo’s commitment to safe, consistent arena conditions for competitors and horses.

Remada Award Winner

The PRCA Remuda Award is one of professional rodeo's most respected honors, recognizing stock contractors and committees who provide exceptional livestock for PRCA-sanctioned rodeos and voted on by PRCA contestants. It celebrates the breeding programs, animal care, and consistency that produce the bucking horses and bulls that help determine rodeo champions throughout the season.
